Meet the Artist
Artist Biography:
Jigna Patel is a Chicago-based contemporary abstract artist, recently moved from Houston, TX, after living there for 23 years. She initially started studying art and textile design during her GCSE coursework in England where she grew up, but ultimately decided to pursue clinical pharmacy as a profession. She continued to paint until the early years of her career, when she fully dedicated her time to hone in her skills as an organ transplant and critical care clinical pharmacist. After her second child was 1, and mostly sleeping through the night, she felt she needed a creative outlet after her day's work, and started painting again - beginning her journey in mixed media. Jigna learned how to work with resin, fluid acrylics, inks and subsequently oils. After 16 years of dedicating herself to her passion toward patient care, of which the last 8 years consisted of painting for private collectors, globally, and participating in several local art fairs, Jigna made the decision to become a full-time artist and continue her healing of people through her art.
Artist Statement:
Jigna's abstractions are created with layers, textures, resin, acrylic and oil paints, acrylic inks, spray paints and lots of other media, including textiles, coming full circle from her earlier works. She is also known to use various tools outside of the conventional brushes and palette knives, and almost all of her work has some shimmer or sparkle to it in the form of metallics or glitter. She loves to push the boundaries of the depth and flow she can achieve, especially when it comes to abstract impressionism and abstract expressionism.
Jigna works with her private and commercial clients, and interior designers to create the perfect bespoke piece that can elevate the aura in any space.
Her work is inspired by nature, and some of her favorite places, but made more profound by the intuitive and emotional nature of her painting process.
